Party Like Its 1905 with Buffalo Brewing Company’s First Ever New England IPA

New England IPAs, those du jour hazy juice bombs that have taken the brewing industry by storm, have quickly woven their way into the fabric of the Buffalo beer scene. They are the beers you know and love – Flying Bison’s Juice Caboose, Big Ditch’s Lock IPA Series, 12 Gates’ Mountains of the Moon, Old First Ward Brewing’s #Smashtag and any number of unfiltered creations from Thin Man Brewery (Trial By Wombat, Filthy Flow, Night Terrors, Smooth Maneuvers, etc, etc). Pretty much every Western New York brewery has released their very own version of a NEIPA, except Buffalo Brewing Company, until now that is.

1905 NEIPA, named in honor of the year that Buffalo’s venerable Albright-Knox Art Gallery opened its doors, clocks in at 7% and features a hop combo of Simcoe and Vic Secret on the hot side and is dry hopped with El Dorado, Galaxy, Idaho 7 and Mosaic. As a matter of fact, 1905 NEIPA features 4.5 pounds of hops per barrel.

Buffalo Brewing Company’s Owner and Head Brewer John Domres says that it was just time for them to add a New England IPA to their tap list, adding that he has become a bigger fan of the style over time as he drinks more of them. And it helps that, as he says, everyone has been asking when they were going to produce something hazy.

“We’re just doing a series of beers we haven’t brewed before in half batches,” he says. “We brewed this beer because we had been asked since opening about a New England IPA. We thought it was time to brew one. Besides the fact that I have been drinking a lot of Other Half and Treehouse beers lately and have really started to enjoy the style.”

1905 NEIPA taps at noon on Saturday, November 3. Stop in for a fresh pint and grab some to go. In honor of the special tappening, BBC is running a 1905 NEIPA crowler special – 2 32oz. crowlers for $19 plus tax and deposit. This beer will go quickly. Domres says that only to barrels will be available and expects it won’t last through the weekend.
